-... 那麼六祖大師由草裏邊出來了，聽惠明大師這樣講，就對他說：「不思善，不思惡，正恁麼時，那個是明上座本來面目？」好的你也不要想，壞的你也不要想，正在這個時候，如何是明上座的本來面目？看！（做厲聲喝狀）惠明大師被六祖大師這麼一問，即刻就開悟了。開悟後，他還問：「上來密語密意外，還更有密意否？」還有比這個更妙、更祕密的嗎？六祖大師就說：「與汝說者，即非密也。汝若返照，密在汝邊。」這個祕密的在你自性裏邊，我若能說給你的，那就不是密了。

一般人迷到密宗上，以為密宗這就是密了，密宗都有一個咒念，例如念庵啞吽，這還有一個聲音，有一個字說得出來的。真正密的，也無聲也無色，不落於色聲香味觸法，那才是祕密的，也就是六祖大師所說：「與汝說者，即非密也。汝若返照，密在汝邊。」我告訴你的，那就不是祕密了！所以一般人不要被密宗迷了，說：「這是最上的法，這是真是不得了的。」是法平等無有高下，佛法是平等的，沒有那個是高那個是低，那個是上那個是下。你用那一個法相應，那一個法就是妙法；你與這個法不相應，那個法就不是妙法。這並不是那個法不是妙法，因為和你不對機。   -- 百日禪選輯（一）：自己生死自己了   一九七○年十一月二十日宣公上人開示於三藩市佛教講堂
